So many deals, so little time.

Hello friends, I just got back from Walgreens with my SIL. There are fantastic deals there every week, but I don't write them out every week because I don't always make it there. This makes me want to share Couponing lesson 1: Sometimes you can't get every deal. Especially where I live. My area is saturated with couponers, deal seekers, and food storage enthusiasts. Unless I check back at a store over and over again, or go first thing in the morning the first day of any given sale (which is impossible for me at some places, since I avoid shopping on Sundays), then I'm not going to get everything.

Lesson 2: Get the best deals you can, for you. I often read about people scoring TONS of stuff for NOTHING! I have to remember that this "hobby" of mine (borderline obsessions) does not replace time spent (out of the grocery store) with my children, or with my husband.

Anyway, about Walgreens, they are running a promotion where you get a $5 off coupon (register reward) when you spend $25 in one transaction. This goes from until 12/13. The great deal is that your total can be way less than that after coupons and you'll still get the register reward. Today I bought:
2-3 packs of Scotch tape $2 (will get $2 back in rebate)
1-Schick Razor $6.99 (used $4 manufacturers coupon, and a $3 Walgreens store coupon)
1-Crest toothpaste $3.79 (used Manufactures coupon for a FREE product)
1-Listerine mouthwash $4.79 (used Manufactures coupon for a FREE product)
1- Bottle water $.99(used Walgreens coupon for a FREE product)
4- Hersheys kisses packages $10 (will get $5 back in rebate and used 4 $1 off manufacturers' coupons)
Total: $28.56
After coupons: $7.99
After rebates and $5 off promotion: $.99

And FYI- a register reward is a coupon that you use on your next shopping order. They expire, so don't throw out money. Check the date and use them before they expire. If you can't make it back to Walgreens, you can use them at Albertsons.

So, if you have a Walgreen nearby now is good time to use up your high value coupons, buy make-up, or baby items.

This weeks shopping list

Milk at Maceys is $1.85!!! Can you believe it? They are practically giving it away. Also, at the Macey's in town, they are selling 10lbs of breaded chicken patties for $10. The kids loved them, my husband however said they were a sorry excuse for chicken.
On Dec 5-6th they have some other good deals:
Coke Products, 2 liters$.69
Gold'n Plump Rotisserie Chickens $5.00
Boneless Skinless Chicket Breasts, Super Saver Pack $1.39/lb
Don Julio Tortilla Chips, 10 oz. assorted $.88

Albertson-
If you spend $20 in one transaction you get a $5 off coupon to use on your next shopping order. The best deal I saw was on the diapers. The big box of Pampers are $21.69, combine that with a manufacturers coupon and the $5 off and you have some cheap diapers. (Size 3-100 diapers, used a $2 off coupon, plus $5 off promotion= $14.69 a box). Plus you get 5 free Red Box Codes.

Also, there is a mail in rebate for a Free Pair of Crocs when you spend $25 of P&G stuff in one transaction. The forms at the SF store are back by the milk case. The savings isn't as good on the promotion (20% savings, rather than 25%, but if you like the sandals and can find the form, this is a good time to do it).

Albertsons Brand pasta 12-16 oz. packages are $.50 a bag, limit 20. Great Price!!
Hunts spaghetti sauce 26-26.5 oz. $.69 a can (with in-ad coupon) limit 2

For my friends in my town, the SF Albertsons has beer rebates at customer service. There are some great rebates out right now for ham, turkeys, and general purchases.

DI Drive

Hey if you live by me, there is a DI drive going on at the Stake Center on 2550 E. It goes thru tomorrow. If you have a DI pile like me, save yourself the drive to Provo, and drop 'em off at the church instead.

Good Deal at Lowe's

If you're making any home improvements this month, Lowe's is running a promotion that is pretty sweet.

When you buy $100 in giftcards, you can send in a rebate for $20 back. You can do the rebate 3 times (just buy the giftcards in different transactions).

So, if you have a big purchase, you can save yourself up to $60....um, use the giftcards to pay for your purchase, of course.

Ask for the rebate forms at customer service.

Kmart Double Coupons

I went this morning to the SF Kmart. There were about 20 couponers there. The lines were long, but I did score some good deals. The candy pictured was free, the diapers, though not exceptionally priced had an additional promo which if you purchased $20 of Huggies products you got $5 off a toy. Everything else was purchased at a significant savings.

Some things to note: If your coupon is off 2 products, the computer is not giving you the full "doubles" value. For instance I had a "save $1.00 off 2 BC potatoes"...at $1.25 a piece and with the coupon doubled to $2.00 the price for each should have been $.25. Instead the computer took off $1.00 and then $.50, making the price per each, $.50 (and way too expensive for my taste). So, it may be better to avoid using those types of coupons, as I had a similar problem with my ziploc coupons.

Also, $2.00 value coupons don't seem to be doubling.

Here is a list from the SavvyShopper of good deals:savvyshopperdeals.com.

and a discussion about kmart doubles from Pinchingyourpennies.com.

Here is a link with a list of stuff too on Google docs.

How to cut out coupons: 101

It took me like 2 years to figure this trick out. I know not everyone is as slow as me, but if you haven't figured this out yet, here is a good way to cut coupons. It is a little something I like to call, "collating"

Find a big area, like the counter or the floor and lay each page of the insert out.
Next, take another insert and lay the like pages on top of the previous page, and continue. When all the pages are laid out, cut the pile of like pages out at the same time.

You could also staple each set of coupons together before you cut them (this works well if you get more than 5 inserts).

Now the coupons are in sets, and ready to file in your coupon box or binder.

Easy as pie, and a heck of a lot faster than cutting them out one by one.

Kmart Doubles

It's in the ad for Nov 30th to Dec 6th. The ad states: "Super Double Manufacturer Coupons up to & Including $2 Value

Amount of Credit from doubling a coupon cannot exceed the retail price of an item. No cash or in-store purchase credit will be awarded for any amount exceeding the retail price of the item. Limit 1 coupon for each item purchased. Only 1 coupon will be doubled per item. You may only purchase 4 of the same items using double coupons. Coupons do not apply to sales tax. Limit 75 coupons per customer per day. Internet coupons or copies of manufacturer instant coupons are not valid."

I plan to check it out Dec 1st. I'll post what deals people are getting as soon as soon as I find them out.

Black Friday

I want everyone to know that I have determined not to buy anything tomorrow except some flannel fabric at Joannes. It is $1.49/yd (in years past it has been $.99).

I was tempted by some toys at Shopko, but I settled on Lego Starwars for my oldest son ($14.99 on Amazon.com. To get free shipping I bought season 2 of the Office *we have seasons 1 and 3* for $13.99 and Night at the Museum for $4.99).

I am now all set for my son's, I just need a little doll stroller for my daughter, something for my husband, and then my immediate family is done.

Moonlight Madness

My SIL and I hit the MOONLIGHT MADNESS sale at Reams last night, and it lived up to its name. We got our items fairly quickly but waited in line for an hour. We are stocked up on our Holiday Snack foods, though.

This is what I got:
4 boxes Keebler crackers= $.49 each
4 bags Lays Potato Chips= $.99 each
6 2L of Shasta Pop=$.49 each
1 2lb bag of shrimp=$5.98
6 pkgs little smokies=$1.00 each
6 pkgs cream cheese=$.50 each
4 1lb bags of mini carrots= $.49 each
6 10oz pkgs lunch meat=$.44 each
8 pkgs frozen veggies=$.45 each
1 15lb bag of potatoes=$.99
9 lbs Yams and Sweet potatoes=$.25/lb

Where I'm spending my grocery $ this week.

For those that live by me, Reams, as usual has some great produce items on sale this week:
Jumbo Yams & Sweet Potatoes = $0.29 lb
Celery = $0.39 lb
Radishes and Green Onions = $0.33 bunch
Cello Mushrooms 8 oz = $0.99
2 Lb Mini Carrots = $1.49 bag
Red Leaf lettuce = $.69 a head
Broccoli & Cauliflower = $0.59 lb
Small Avocados = $0.50
Roma Tomatoes = $0.79 lb
15 lb Russet Potatoes = $1.99
25 lbs. Yellow Onions = $1.99 bag
Pears = $0.69 lb
Pineapple = $0.69 lb
Cantaloupe & Honeydew = $0.49 lb
Red Seedless Grapes = $0.89 lb
Braeburn, Grannies, Red/Gold Delicious Apples 5 lb = $2.99 bag

Then I'll probably buy the following at Albertsons:
*6 boxes of Jolly Time popcorn for $10 (send in the in-ad rebate form to get $10 back-you can do the promotion 2x's). Use on-line PRINTABLE to make money on the deal.

*Green Giant Steamers frozen vegetables 12 oz. $1.00. Use coupon:Green Giant Valley Fresh Steamers frozen vegetables, any variety $1/1 (11-29-08) GeneralMillsSS-10/5 and SS-11/16 to get them for FREE

...they have a promotion that if you spend $25 on participating Kraft products you save $10 on a turkey. I don't see any screaming deals on the Kraft items. I'll up date if I find any out.

Also, if you spend $25 at the store than you can get a turkey for $.38 a pound. If you spend that much on misc things you should throw a turkey in your cart too, for that price.

Cheap Pie and Breyers Ice Cream

Oh faithful followers, I failed to let you in on this good deal. Right now at Albertsons (sale ends today) you can get 2- 37oz Sara Lee Pies, and 2- 1.5qt Breyers Ice Cream for $6.39. That comes out to $1.60 per item. The deal is Buy one Pie for $6.39 and get another pie and 2 Breyers Ice Cream's for free.

In my defense, I have 3 pies in my freezer left over from last year when I got them for a screaming deal, and I'm trying to avoid Breyers at all cost. It is just too good.

Romano's Macaroni Grill Pasta: Product Review

I got this item free the other day. The box was damaged so it was marked down to $.99 and I had a $1.00 off manufacturer's coupon. I cooked it up and was pleased with the taste. You have to provide your own chicken, but the noodles, sauce and seasonings are provided with the box. It didn't taste quite as good as the restaurant, and I'm sure you could pull the taste together using spices and sauce from your pantry, but of course for free you can't beat it.

Would I pay for it though? Well, last week I did pre-pay $.66 each for 3 (I haven't received them yet, since they were out-of-stock). Knowing what I know now, I think I would go up to $.75 on this item, but no more. They will be nice to have for last minute meals, but you still need to have chicken on hand so it's not like you're getting a complete meal for pennies. It's not an item I'll have stocked up. It totally beats Hamburger Helpers though-for about the same price (assuming you got your chicken cheap a couple weeks ago like I said to:)).

If you see 'em on sale somewhere here is printable coupon

Kohls Credit Card

I am a faithful "Pinching your Pennies" gal. Besides putting together lists of coupons and sale items, they also have a "Screaming deals online" forum. For years I ignored a thread called "Current Kohls.com Codes & Deals." After all there wasn't a Kohls store nearby me so I didn't think it would be useful to me. One day, when I was bored, I checked the thread out and saw absolutely fantastic prices on clothing and household items. I'm talking $1.50 for pj's, $2 for pants, $2.50 for shirts, etc. Plus, there were codes for additional % savings. The catch-the dreaded shipping charges. However, Kohl's Credit card holders could get their items shipped for free.

I deliberated (secretly-I knew my husband would not be on board) and decided to go ahead and sign up for a credit card. I know, I know it was against all good financial (Dave Ramsey) advice. You know what though? I have scored fantastic deals over the last few months, and have not gone crazy or into debt.

The other day I ordered this:

I got it for for $2.71, and it is nice. I plan on gifting it to one of my many cute nephews.

So, I've been happy with my decision to sign up for the card. I've got about 9 items saved for Christmas gifts (for nieces and nephews) that cost me $3 at the most. An added bonus is that there is now a Kohl's store relatively close to me so if I need to return something the brick and mortar store is nearby. Some have said that they buy the items cheap online (even if the size they want is not available) and take it to the store to exchange it for the correct size. I don't have any experience with that, but it sounds like a great way to get what you need for super cheap.

So, honestly I don't buy chef boyardee or packaged dinners unless they are practically free so the only things I'm truly interested in are: popcorn. Hunts spag. sauce (only if I notice it doesn't have HFCS), Pam cooking spray, and Wesson oil. However, I already used the 2 printable coupons last week to get Swiss Miss Hot choco for free, so I won't have any coupons to go with them. Anyway, long story short, I may not be visiting Albertsons this week, so if anyone wants my coupons you can have them.

Great Albertsons Sale (11/5-11/11)

There are some pretty HOT prices at Albertsons starting tomorrow.

The details are:
**General Mills/Unilever promo: Earn $15 on your next shopping trip when you spend $30 or more on any combination of these participating products.**

Some things to know:
-You can only do this promotion ONCE per transaction. So if you buy $60 worth of stuff you will only get one $15 off coupon.
-Split your transactions up and use you $15 coupon on your next transaction, then you won't forget to use your coupon and you'll have less "out-of-pocket" cost.
-I'm guessing the good stuff will be gone fast, this will probably get a bit crazy.
-Take advantage of on-line coupons. Even if you don't have Sunday newspaper coupons you can still save a lot by printing the coupons on-line (just don't photocopy them, that's illegal).
-You can usually print each online coupon twice.
-Enjoy the rush of saving a ton.

I will probably buy the following (assuming I can find them in stock):
*All Small & Mighty 3X Concentrated Laundry Detergents, any $1/2 (12-7-08) RP-10/12 All Small & Mighty 3X detergent $3.33. Use a $1.00/1 printable coupon for $2.33 (with promotion $.67)

Decoding my secret couponing language

When I list a coupon it looks something like this: Softsoap Liquid Hand Soap, any 7.5 oz. or 12 oz. .35/1 (10-18-08) SS-9/28

Coupon inserts that come in the Sunday paper have one of the following names: Smart Source, Red Plum, Procter and Gamble, or General Mills. Usually there are 2 inserts, a Red Plum (RP) and a Smart Source (SS). Once a month though, you will find a Procter and Gamble (P&G) in addition to your Smart Source and Red Plum inserts. The P&G coupons usually expire in one month, as opposed to other coupons that have longer expirations. Just to make things exciting, Smart Source sometimes includes a second insert (SS2), and General Mills (GM) will send out an insert as well. On holiday weekends, there usually are NO coupon inserts....did you get all that?

When the coupon is listed in my posts (or on couponing sites) it will have an abbreviation, such as SS (Smart Source insert), then a number, like 9/29, which represents the date the insert was included in the paper.

So, the coupon, Softsoap Liquid Hand Soap, any 7.5 oz. or 12 oz. .35/1 (10-18-08) SS-9/28 can be found in the "Smart Source" coupon insert that came out on September 28th.

Organizing your coupons

There are a few schools of thought on this :)
1. Clip all coupons and organize them in some sort of box. This is what I do. Here is a picture of my "coupon caddie"

If you don't have a fancy box, like me, you can use a tackle box, or even baby wipes boxes (this is what I use to do). Coupons are organized by category with the coupons that expire soonest placed at the first of each category.

I like this system because I have all coupons readily available when I'm at the store. I don't miss out on hidden deals or clearance deals because I don't have my coupons cut and with me. At the end of the week I go through each category and throw out the expired coupons.

2. Clip and organize the coupons in a binder. The Daily Herald Savvy Shopper promotes this. Check out her site if you're interested in this: savvyshopperdeals.com

3. File your coupons and wait for the sale before clipping them. This is by far the easiest system and is what the lame grocery guru teaches and also Coupon Smart. When you get your Sunday paper you find your coupon inserts, write the date on the front, and save 'em in a binder or file box. If you do this, don't throw 'em away every 4 weeks like the guru teaches...most coupons have a long expiration and you will be throwing away precious savings.

I actually do a bit of this. Even though I carry around a coupon caddie, I really don't cut out EVERY coupon. I keep the ones I am very unlikely to use in a file box.

So find a system and try it out, then tweak it to fit your needs. Be a little organized and you really can save a lot.

All these items can be mixed and matched.

Ken’s Dressing, any $1/1 (9-30-08) SS-8/3 (though often they come out with a $2.00 coupon, so you can get it for better than free).

Smokehouse in SF

I love to go out to eat. If I was rich I would go to every restaraunt in town and try everything. Since I'm poor I *should* only go out to eat occasionally. One of my favorites here in SF isThe Smokehouse. I have had the reuben, cobb salad, and beef brisket (though not all in one sitting) and they were all great. The prices are comparable to everywhere else ($5-$8), but I like it because they are always running promotions and contests. In the coupon mailer thingie that came in the mail yesterday there was an ad for $5 off anything at the Smokehouse here in town. If you threw it out, find it! If you don't want it give it to me.

Take advantage of the discount and try it out, and if you like it sign up for their emails/frequent visitors card...I have scored 2 $10 gift certificates this way, plus numerous free drinks and % off discounts.

Albertsons Sale...(9/17-9/23)

Looks to be another fun week at Albertsons. I hope you all are enjoying your cheap granola bars and instant oatmeal (and if the store was out, that you got rainchecks).

Quaker Sale at Albertsons

The big Quaker sale is starting tomorrow at Albertsons. Normally this is my favorite sale of the year because you can get Life cereal for cheap. This year the cereal is not on sale since the plant where it is made got flooded (so I hear). Oh well, you can still get granola bars and oatmeal for a pretty good deal.

There are a couple printables that you can use:here, here, here, here and here

Also, search your Macey's, Payson Market, Harmons, Reams, Allens (associated food stores) ads for a $3 off 5 Quaker products coupon. Also, there were a few Quaker coupons in last Sunday's coupon inserts and a month ago (8/10). Gather your coupons together and get yourself a few good deals.

If you live in Provo or Saratoga Springs you can also use the save $3 on your $10 purchase coupon found in the weekly ad, for even more savings (though the computer might beep, indicating that you have more products than items, so throw in something cheap like a candy or water or something).

The coupons are found here:$2 and $1 coupons
and $3 coupon Your computer will let you print any amount, but the website asks that you print only one per household.

This week you can also get Crest Mouthwash, 500ml for $4.49. A coupon for $4.50 off your next purchase will print, thus making it free.

Customer Appreciation Week!

This week at Papa Murphy's the Large Pepperoni pizza's are $4.99 (limit 3). Now that I'm too poor to go to Two Jacks for pizza, I am pretty excited about this. We like to add whatever veggies we have on hand to beef the pepperoni variety up a bit. The other day we happened to have peppers, onions, and olives that all needed to be used up...mmm, pizza. I have had success freezing these pizzas as well, just be sure to thaw 'em completely before cooking them.

Happy eating!

Pretty Good Buys

Today I purchased:
12 boxes of Cheerios, 14 oz
6 Pillsbury Crescent Rolls, 8 oz
6 Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls, 12 oz
6 cans Old EL Paso Enchilada Sauce, 10 oz
2 Packages Old El Paso taco shells, 12 ct
4 Progresso Bread Crumbs, 14 oz
4 boxes Curves bars, 6 ct

I used a coupon for each item. All but 2 of my coupons I printed off the internet. With the current promotion (buy 10 items save $5) and the coupons I used, I paid $.50 for each item, except the Curves bars which cost $.75 each. I also got 80 Bonus Box Tops. Not too shabby.

To find the printable coupons go to: Pinchingyourpennies.com>forums>screamingdealsbystate>Utah>Albertsons List>First post in the thread has the shopping list with the coupon links.

I also was in need of diapers. Instead of running to Orem to buy some at Costco, or even to Walmart for generics, I got a box of 104 for 21.99. I saved $5 for buying $20 worth of Kimberly-Clark products, and used a $2 coupon. So for $14.99 I got a big box of good diapers and also 40 Bonus Boxtops.

Albertsons is also having a deal on Dove products. I got 3 Dove shampoos and 2 Sunsilk shampoos, all 14 oz. for $20. I used 3-$2 coupons, and 2-$1.50 coupons, plus saved $7 with the current promotion. That comes out to $.28 a piece for the Dove shampoo's and $.39 for the Sunsilks.

Using coupons to build your food storage!

For those who have asked for my help figuring out how to use coupons and didn't get the help you were hoping for...Amy H is having a lady come to her house to do a coupon class. The lady who is coming does the same thing I do. If you can make it to the party I think it will be very helpful. Contact Amy for details.

BTW, the philosophy is that you get multiple copies of the coupon inserts so that when things go on sale you can get a bunch of them thus building your food storage for cheap.(Like this week I got 7 packages of Scotts Toilet Paper for free, since I had 7 coupons).

Box Top Sale at Albertsons

"Box Top" products are on sale frequently at Albertsons and Smiths, but this week is the "bonus box top" week at Albertsons (Sept3-9).

The details are: **Bonus Box Tops: Save $5 instantly and earn 20 BONUS Box Tops when you buy 10 participating items.** So check the Grocery List and see if there are any Box tops products you use and pick yourself up a few and earn some extra box tops. According to the Box tops site, Spanish Oaks earned $1,640 last year. I think I contributed $40 of that (I'd been saving up my boxtops for awhile).

The fun thing about General Mills products is that you can print a lot of coupons on line. So, even if you don't get newspaper coupons you can still take advantage of the sale. The grocery list has links to the printable coupons.

Beer Rebates- The Non-Beer Drinkers' Friend

Be on the lookout for Beer Rebates. A lot look like this:

The are usually on the beer aisle or next to the beer displays. I don't see them too often in my town, but they are *usually* found at Smiths and Albertsons. I have a couple extra of the 2 I posted.

One is for $15 back on your $15 or larger purchase of: Tanning Oil and Lotions, Beach Chairs, Umbrellas, Coolers, Towels, Beach Hats, Sandals, or Sunglasses. So if you bought any of these items from 5/1 until now and have the receipt for 'em, I have a couple extra of these rebate forms. The items can be on different receipts.

The other rebate is for $25 back on your $100 grocery bill. This is little tricker. If you purchased $100 of "food" on 1 day in the month of August then I have a couple extra of this rebate. The food items can be on different receipts, but they have to be dated on the same day.

There are a bunch of other beer rebates circulating these days on purchases of deli items, snacks, chips, meat, etc. Keep your eyes open for them. And for all you nay-sayers out there...I have received 100% of my beer rebates back. Though, the other day I got my first rejection note (I didn't buy a qualifying item). Keep a record of your rebate by making a copy, scanning it, or taking a picture of it. Most rebate forms have a phone number you can call with questions or to check the status.

Last, you don't have to buy beer to use these rebates. They all state "no beer purchase required" or "no beer purchase required in UT." The beer companies just want to pay you for your purchases. They are nice that way. I say, "let 'em" and let's bleed 'em dry.

Fun Deal at Albertsons

I must admit I personally am a hot dog snob. If I'm buying hot dogs that I will be eating they have to be "beef." Sadly, my kids eat whatever I buy which often = cheapie ones.

Anyway, if you don't care about what kind of hotdogs your family eats, then here is a deal for you:

Ball Park Franks are Buy 1 get 2 free at Albertsons through next Tuesday. The first one cost $3.99. So $3.99 for 3 packages of dogs. Now I know your saying, "That's crazy, why don't I go to Macey's and buy the John Morrell kind for .50 a package." This is where it gets fun. There are coupons on the hot dog buns for buy 2 hotdogs get buns free. There are also coupons by the hotdogs for "buy 1 hot dog and 1 bun get a 12 pk of coke free, up to $4.99." Then, there is a deal for buy 2 coke 12 packs get 3 free (the 2 you pay for are $5.99 and the coupon is only good up to 4.99, so you have to pay a $1 for them). So, if you combine all the coupons and promotions you can get this...

6 packages of hotdogs
3 packages of hotdog buns and
6 12 packs of Coke for...
$10.98

Perfect for your Labor day picnic.

****ETA:**** If you do want Beef hotdogs...You can buy 4 Oscar Meyer Beef Franks for $7 (they are 4 for $10 - the $3 kraft promotion)

OR, you could go to Smiths (or price match at Walmart) and get Ballpark BEEF franks for $2.50. If you had the coupons I mentioned you could get 2 pks hotdogs, 1 package of buns, and 2 coke 12pk for $5.00. The coupons needed are found in stores (not in your Sunday inserts) so this only works if your store *happens* to have the coupons (who wants to take that chance?) or if you've gathered the coupons beforehand and held on to 'em waiting for a sale...(if you see a coupon "tearpad" and it is for a product you use definitely take a couple. If the product isn't at a buying point then, save it for later).
